Vivaldi Podcast: The Fediverse – the road to an open social web

|

In this episode, Bruce Lawson's guest is Evan Prodromou, Research Director of the newly-launched Social Web Foundation. They discuss interconnected social networks and ActivityPub, the open standard that Evan co-authored which enables cross-platform connections, how this tech reshapes online interactions, and the Foundation's work to support digital rights and diversity.

This episode, where Bruce Lawson, CTO at Vivaldi, is joined by Evan Prodromou is well worth your time if you are thinking about social media in 2024.

And there is one quote in particular that I want to highlight (paraphrasing): "If you go by yourself, you can move fast. But if you move together, you can get far".

Around 2004-2007 I wrote a lot about web standards and the "browser wars". Building proprietary solutions made it clear that going by yourself allowed for a higher pace, while building something more robust takes longer.

The same is true today, I think.
